Le Peugeot 308 VTi and 308 Turbo the 'Hot Hatch Duo'
The first weekend of August saw the roll out of the much acclaimed and awaited Peugeot 308 x 2 and the launch of Peugeot World exhibition at Siam Paragon.
Peugeot (pronounced poo-ZHO) in the US lovingly known as the “Pug” is a global French car brand, part of PSA Peugeot Citroën group, the second largest carmaker in Europe. Number nine on the world automotive ranking list and 75 on the Fortune 500 list.
In Thailand la voiture Peugeot is imported by European Motors Co., Ltd. Part of Yontrakit Automobiles Group official importer of Peugeot cars since 1971.
As a niche brand Peugeot has in short time rolled out with success the economical, petite, sub compact 206, the sexy hard top convertible 207 CC, the luxury Expert Van and the flagship face lifted saloon 407.
And the long awaited cool duo: 308 VTi and the powerful 308 Turbo. The whole Peugeot line-up was displayed on the courtyard outside Siam Paragon. With the two brand new 308’s stealing the show.
In the auto-car lingo the 308 is called a compact saloon (sedan). This 5-door Peugeot has been awarded with the Golden Steering Wheel, Engine of the Year (2007 and 2008) including the Guinness Record for sobriety. The 308 HDi (Diesel) managed to travel 1,911 km on a full tank; 60 liter). This is a stylish car – from any angle you might look at it.
The 308 VTi comes with an economical 1,6 liter normally aspirated 120 horse power engine with a 190 km/h top speed and a sticker price of 1,65 million THB. Plus five star Euro crash & safety rating.
The 308 Turbo charged pocket rocket version with prices starting from 1,85 million THB.
And how about the styling? C’est Une belle voiture or French styling. The particularly feline looking front headlights extend harmoniously along the bonnet profile.
Four circular lights with an attractive technical finish give the 308 a look that is both bright and eye catching.
The design of the front with its visible Peugeot DNA characteristics is accentuated still further by a single two part air intake grille the car’s dynamic and distinguished character, while integration of the front bumper strengthens the impression of overall solidity.
The shape of the fog lamps is reminiscent of those of the 907. Positioned at each end of the lower front bumper panel, they make the vehicle visually appear much wider and give the impression that the 308 is “glued to the road”.
The interior of the 308 is elegant and functional both in terms of the design and the materials used giving an unmistakeable feel of quality.
The centre console is functional and compact and made of distinctive materials both in terms of appearance and touch; soft texture, high quality materials. Upholstery in premium leather with elegant stitching. And as icing on the cake the 5-door Peugeot 308 Turbo hatchback is equipped with a full-length panoramic glass roof.
Finally the paint jobs: The 308 Vti in Nera Black and in Thorium Grey, and the Taranga Blue my favorite is this the the Peugeot blue?
And for the top-of-the line 308 Turbo with 140 horse power and a top speed of 203 km/h – and the a “moon-roof”. I would absolutely choose the unique Babylon Red color option.
Even the global Peugeot showrooms have been conceptualized and are now called “blue box” showrooms.
